The Ayurvedic Approach to Fitness with John Douillard at Kashi
Saturday, May 20th
Master Ayurvedic Doctor, teacher and
acclaimed author John Douillard will be giving a workshop
on the Ayurvedic approach to fitness and health at Kashi
on Saturday, May 20 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Participants will learn how understanding
body type can help determine what sports and exercise programs
would be most beneficial to them, and that exercise is to be
enjoyed, not suffered through. Eighty per cent of Americans
avoid regular exercise not for lack of time, but because they
do not enjoy it.
Ayurveda is an ancient system of medicine developed in India
that treats the whole person--mind, body and spirit. The word ayurveda in
Sanskrit combines “Ayur” (life) and “Veda” (knowledge), equaling
life knowledge.
Dr. Douillard is the author of the 3-Season Diet, Body,
Mind and Sport, Perfect Health for Kids, and The
Encyclopedia of Ayurvedic Massage. John received
his Ayurvedic training in India and holds a Ph.D in Ayurvedic
Medicine from the Open International University . He
is the former Director of Player Development for the New
Jersey Nets in the NBA. He co-directed Deepak Chopra's Ayurvedic
Center for eight years and has trained more than 1,000 western
doctors in Ayurvedic medicine, natural health, fitness and
nutrition for 17 years. Currently he directs the LifeSpa
in Boulder , Colorado where he lives with his wife and three
of his six children. A former Hollywood stunt ma n
and professional tri-athlete, Dr. Douillard knew the rigors
of intense training and became interested in Ayurveda for
its healing and perfor ma nce-enhancing qualities. Considered
a sports guru to ma ny professional athletes including Billie
Jean King and Martina Navratilova, John has also treated
high school tennis players and bike racers.
As Douillard says in his book Body,
Mind, and Sport, “A yurvedic
fitness is tailor- ma king a lifestyle and fitness routine
according to your body type. When you've accomplished that,
daily life becomes more enjoyable.”
Kashi is located at 11155 Roseland Road in Sebastian. The
cost of the workshop is $125.00; this includes a vegetarian
lunch. To register, please call the Kashi office at 772-589-1403
ext. 112 or visit www.kashi.org |
